Kathy Compton was born and raised in Southern Illinois. She received her Master's Degree in Educational Psychology from Southern Illinois University, with a specialization in Marriage and Family Counseling. She worked as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for a few years. After her third child, she went back to school and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood. After graduation, she was hired by Carbondale New School. She was our K-1st teacher from 2010-17, and moved into the grades 1-3 classroom in 2017-18.
Education is full of endless possibilities. By using a hands-on-approach, I facilitate the growth of each student as he explores his surroundings. I do this in a fun and loving way as students learn important life skills, reading, writing, language arts, math, social studies and science. As learning occurs, students become independent, confident thinkers. Students work as a large group, small groups and on their own. Education is a fun and exciting adventure for all students.
